Background

In pursuance of detecting dynamics of power struggles, public policy etc., Azzam To'meh has embarked on studying politics. Having majored in political science, he obtained a BA in the field and proceeding with his graduate studies in the American University of Beirut, with minors in the Arabic language and philosophy. He is also working in the Department of Sociology on authoritarianism, the religious sphere, and public policy. He is also the coordinator of the Portal for Social Impact of Scientific Researcher (atharportal.net). His research interests include: public policy in the Arab world, refugee studies, political psychology, political Islam, Arab history, and political theory.

Research project

In the framework of my fellowship on "Violence, Forced Migration and Exile: Trauma in the Arab World and in Germany", he will look into the role of mosques as a vehicle of inclusion of Syrian refugees into Lebanese society, and how both conflict and cooperation emerged in the religious market, utilizing free market theory and Talal Asad's notion of religious scholars in Muslim societies as civil society actors.
