Jasper Bernhofer studied Middle Eastern Studies, Philosophy, and Semitic Studies in Halle, Berlin, Paris, and Tel Aviv. He is a research associate in the ERC-project “MAJLIS” at the department of Jewish Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. He is also working on his doctoral dissertation at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, in which he prepares a critical edition of a hitherto unedited Samaritan-Arabic exegetical treatise and examines the interconnection of medieval Samaritan exegesis and interreligious polemics to other exegetical traditions of the medieval Islamicate world. His research interests further include Middle Arabic, Arabic and Hebrew codicology and paleography as well as the history of Arabic philosophy and its reception among different communities of the Middle East.
