Ibrahim Muhawi was born in Palestine in 1937, and received his higher education in the United States (University of California). He has taught at universities in the United States, Canada, Jordan, Tunisia, Scotland and Palestine. His interests are interdisciplinary, and combine literary and cultural studies (including folkloristics and translation theory). His scholarly publications include a number of articles with an interdisciplinary emphasis in these fields. He has also published an annotated collection of Palestinian folktales (1989) and a translation (with an introduction) of Mahmoud Darwish’s Memory for Forgetfulness (1995). He is also co-editor of a forthcoming volume on literature and the nation in the Middle East. He is currently working on a book on the Arabian Nights.
